Our
History
Since 1970
Four Generations Dedicated to Tobacco
Rooted in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Barreda family has shaped its path through generations, from the grandfather who sparked the passion for tobacco, to his grandson who founded the company, and now to a new generation guiding it forward with integrity and responsibility.
1970
Where it all began FRANCISCO “DON CHICO” BARREDA
Francisco “Don Chico” Barreda discovered his love for tobacco almost by chance. In the 1970s, as Estelí began its first plantations, he developed a natural fascination for tobacco leaves and decided to learn everything about their cultivation and production.
He never saw it as a business. For him, tobacco was a pleasure, a tradition, an essence. He planted his own leaves on a small portion of his land to share with friends and family. He learned how to cure, ferment, and roll them with dedication.

SECOND and third GENERATION: OSCAR AND CAMILO BARREDA
Decades later, Don Chico’s grandson, Oscar, took that early passion and shaped it into a clear vision: to build a 100% Nicaraguan company that would not only produce high-quality tobacco, but also generate employment, support local development, and carry Nicaragua’s identity into international markets.
Trained as an electrical engineer, Oscar Barreda founded Barreda Cigars in 2013 with the intention of developing a premium cigar brand rooted firmly in Nicaragua. From Estelí, he led the establishment of the factory and brought national production together under consistent, high standards.
At the same time, Don Chico’s son, Camilo Barreda, took on the task of expanding the brand beyond Nicaragua’s borders. Based in the United States, he helped establish the company’s international distribution network and guided its early commercial growth in the North American market.

Fourth GENERATION:
A GLOBAL perspective
With decades of experience passed down through each generation, the fourth generation of the Barreda family now plays an active role in the brand’s present and future. Jennifer Barreda leads the company’s international presence and expansion into new markets, while her brother, Oscar Barreda Jr., oversees internal operations.
Both grew up closely connected to the family business, absorbing its values and day-to-day realities from an early age. Today, they bring that knowledge into contemporary initiatives, including the creation of Vega Suprema Oro, a line introduced as a tribute to their roots in Estelí and as a natural evolution within the brand’s portfolio.
This generation contributes a fresh perspective grounded in experience, balancing respect for tradition with a practical, forward-looking approach to growth and international positioning.
Present
A NEW ERA FOR BARREDA CIGARS
Over the years, Barreda Cigars has expanded beyond its origins, building relationships in new markets while remaining faithful to the principles on which the company was founded: trust, quality, and integrity.
Today, the company is led by Oscar Barreda as CEO, alongside Karla Rodríguez, who serves as General Manager, and Oscar Barreda Jr., responsible for overseeing internal operations and production continuity. Jennifer Barreda leads international development, guiding the brand’s expansion and the exploration of new opportunities abroad.
Outside Nicaragua, Camilo Barreda and Angelina Barreda played a key role in establishing the foundations for distribution and commercial growth, helping position the brand for its next phase.
Each member contributes to the company’s present structure with a shared focus: strengthening sustainable growth while ensuring that the Barreda name continues to stand for consistency, responsibility, and a long-term commitment to the people and processes behind every cigar.
